Revision Rhinoplasty (Secondary Rhinoplasty)
Corrective procedures performed if the desired result is not achieved after rhinoplasty are called revision rhinoplasty or secondary rhinoplasty.
This operation, which is performed to achieve a better aesthetic appearance or to eliminate breathing problems, aims to meet the patient's expectations both visually and functionally.
Deformities that develop after the initial surgery, such as a collapsed nasal dorsum, drooping nasal tip, an asymmetrical appearance, curvatures, or breathing problems, may necessitate revision surgery. Revision rhinoplasty is generally scheduled at least one year after the initial surgery. This time is crucial for the nose to fully heal and achieve its final shape.
Revision surgery can be performed using either an open or closed technique. The open technique allows for a more detailed view of the nasal structure, while the closed technique offers less scarring and a faster recovery. Cartilage taken from the patient's ear or rib can also be used to support the nasal structure if necessary. The duration of the surgery varies depending on the correction required; minor touch-ups can be completed in 30 minutes, while more extensive procedures can take 3-4 hours.
While the recovery process varies from person to person, patients can generally return to a desk job within a week. This can be supported by protecting the nose from impacts, keeping the head elevated, using eyeglasses, and following up with creams or sprays recommended by the doctor. The full effects of revision surgery are usually visible after six months.
