Arm Lift (Brachioplasty)
Aging, sudden weight fluctuations, and genetic predisposition can cause looseness and sagging in the upper arms over time. The "bat wing" appearance, particularly after significant weight loss, can cause both aesthetic discomfort and difficulty choosing clothes. While exercise or energy-based methods offer limited benefits for this problem, arm lift surgery is the most effective method for permanent solutions to excess skin and fat accumulation.
An arm lift involves removing excess skin and fat between the armpit and elbow. In cases where skin elasticity is diminished, liposuction can be used to achieve a smoother contour. This procedure can be combined with a tummy tuck, thigh lift, or breast lift for body contouring. The surgery takes approximately 1–3 hours under general or local anesthesia, and the patient is typically discharged the same day or remains in the hospital for one day.
The recovery process is generally rapid. The use of bandages and a special arm corset is recommended in the first few days. The sutures are absorbed by the body over time, and the scars left on the inside of the arm are usually unnoticeable. Patients can return to their daily activities within a few days, but exercises that strain the arm muscles should be avoided for a while.
Arm lift surgery improves the appearance of the upper body, giving the patient a more proportionate and toned body profile. Patients feel more confident and can wear their clothes with ease. Maintaining a healthy weight and regular exercise are important for long-lasting results.
